How can Provider Power Mass offer me competitive rates?

Massachusetts deregulated its energy market in the late 1990’s, allowing companies like Provider Power Mass to buy power in the wholesale electricity market. Each year, the Mass Department of Public Utilities (DPU) holds a bid to determine who will provide the Basic Service supply rate in the Nat Grid, Eversource, WMECO and Unitil territories. Provider Power Mass offers alternatives to the Basic Service through our competitive rates for the power supply portion of your electricity bill.

How long before I see Provider Power Mass on by utility bill?

After completing your enrollment with Provider Power Mass, service commencement may vary depending on your utility’s enrollment requirements and your specific meter reading schedule. The good news is because you pay for your power after it has been used, you will be experiencing our competitive rate even before you see “Provider Power Mass” on your bill.

What changes can I expect to see on my bill?

There are two charges on your electric bill. One is for “Electricity Delivery” and the other is for “Electricity Supply”. These two charges make up the total due on your bill. Your utility is responsible for the Delivery charges on your bill and covers the cost of maintaining lines and meters, responding to outages and overseeing your account. The Supply charges are the cost of acquiring the actual electricity flowing into your home. “Provider Power Mass” will show up in place of “Basic Service” on the supply section of your bill.

Will I leave Nat Grid, Eversource, WMECO or Unitil if I sign up with Provider Power Mass?

No. When you choose Provider Power Mass as your electricity supplier, you will remain a customer of Nat Grid, Eversource, WMECO or Unitil. We work directly with your utility – we supply the electricity, they deliver it to your home or business.

Who do I call if my power goes out?

If I am on a plan with Nat Grid, Eversource, WMECO or Unitil, such as a budget plan, payment plan, energy efficient plan, or HEAP, can I still sign up with Provider Power Mass?

What do you mean by ‘fixed rates’?

What happens if I move?

If you move you will communicate your account change to Nat Grid, Eversource, WMECO or Unitil and please request a “Seamless Move”. This will ensure you continue with Provider Power Mass as your supplier at your new location. In this case, no further action is required by you.

If you are unable to request the “Seamless Move” you will need to contact Provider Power Mass to re-enroll your new active account.

Please contact Provider Power Mass if you should experience any difficulties with this and we will be happy to help you work this out with the utility (Nat Grid, Eversource, WMECO or Unitil).

Do you need my email address to sign me up?  What if I don’t have one?

We use email as our primary means of communication with our customers. Our customers will receive an email notification from us once enrolled and regarding any changes to our Terms of Service.
